It's Friday! T-Minus a few hours and its the weekend!
You have made it this far, just a little more!
Wednesday was an awesome night in the Rock continuing working through the Sermon on the Mount! In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus is helping his disciples consider everything they know. In some ways he is turning their world upside down and correcting what they already know. The religious people of Jesus' day had built a framework of what they thought he would be like, Jesus blows that out of the water! We looked at how Jesus challenges our heart. He makes us truly question if we are authentic in our lives and heart or hypocritical. It was a great night and we have just a few weeks left in there series and in the semester!
If you missed the night, check out the sermon below or the live stream!
A few things to keep in mind coming up!
CAMP - this is one of our biggest events of the year. Really, it is what our year builds up to! We are super excited that we get to do camp this year! We are working to get the price of camp down in hopes of it being less of a burden on families and increasing the opportunities for others to be able to go. For now, what we need to have is a $20 deposit. Also, remind your student to sign-up on the back wall in the Rock and list their shirt size. We hope you will join us in praying for God to work in all of our hearts as we gear up for and go to camp - we know he will!
GRADUATE QUESTIONNAIRE @ theROCKSM.org and @ each welcome in the main church. We have added the opportunity for the graduating student to set up a table in the church for members, family and friends to stop by and say congrats. This also makes a great opportunity of out reach for family and friends to come for.
VBS VOLUNTEERS - Michael Lee and the Firehouse are in need of some volunteers for VBS. If you or your student would be interested in serving in that way, you can let us know or let Michael Lee know directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a great way to serve!
FIREHOUSE TAKEOVER – Another opportunity to serve for your student will be on May 23rd in the Firehouse. Those who volunteer will spend time with the students in the Firehouse playing games, leading worship, and helping set a great example for the kiddos. If your student wants to help tell them to sign-up in the Rock at the INVOLVE board!
SERVING IN FOUNDATIONS - Another opportunity to serve is in Foundations. If you are interested in doing this on a rotation, or even just giving it a shot, you can sign-up at the INVOLVE board or let us know!
ADULT LEADER MEETING SUNDAY @ 5:30P - Don't forget! We'll be chatting through camp, summer and other Rock things! See you there!
ALTMAN CELEBRATION - Sunday night Chris will be preaching his final sermon at RRBC! Come and show your love for him and the rest of the Altmans on Sunday night at 7p for service and afterwards for a celebration in the CLC for them! Wednesday night will also be the Altmans last night in the Rock! Come and hang with us as we celebrate their sweet love for the Rock!
Happy Thursday! It's a brisk 58° in Roopville and guess what - tomorrow is Friday! You can make it!
Last night, we continued our work through the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus has sat with his disciples to teach what it looks like to be a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. Last night we saw how Jesus transforms our hearts and our lives by doing what we ourselves couldn't do! We also saw that God care about our hearts! The OT is often seen as a focus on doing right things, but Jesus helps us see that even then the focus was on the heart. In this section Jesus also paints a picture that our lives prove our hearts. Only you and God know the condition of our hearts. Your actions, though, proves your heart. Jesus get's super practical as he challenges his disciples, and all followers after, to not be angry but rather forgive, to not lust but rather kill sin, to not divorce but rather be faithful, to not make promises we can't keep but to keep our word, to not retaliate or hate but rather to serve and love. Needless to say, it was a packed night and a good night!
If you missed last night check out the sermon and video below!
Coming up in the Rock...
CAMP 2021 - Well the cat is out of the bag - WE ARE GOING TO CAMP!!!
We are way more excited than can be expressed through a blog and we hope you are too! We will have a bunch of information coming out over the next few weeks, but here are the majors you need to know now: the DATE is June 28 -July 2, the cost will be $300, you can go ahead and give non-refundable deposit of $20 now. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for new info.
Graduation Ceremony - On May 16th the church will recognize those who are graduating this year during our morning service. To be recognized, you must submit the form which can be found HERE or you can pick one up at the lobby desks. Please turn those into Andrew in the office.
Graduation Tables - This year we are also adding an extra element to our graduation day and that is graduation tables. Similar to the GIMC conference, we will set up tables in the halls for those who would like to decorate a table for graduation that morning. Just indicate that on the questionnaire found HERE.
FireHouse Takeover - The RockSM has the opportunity to serve in the FireHouse on May 23rd. This is simply giving the FireHouse leadership a break for the morning as we take care of music, teaching and games! If this is something you would like to do - let us know!
Rock Field Games - We had a great turn out this week at the high school hanging together! Our next Field Games Day will be May 23rd! Come and hang with us!
We are very thankful for you guys and are always here for you!
Chris and Andrew
It's mid April, the Masters has wrapped up, the Braves are in full swing and it'll be Thanksgiving before we know it. Time is flying but in a way, standing still. Praying we all make the most of the time God has given to us, redeeming it for His glory.
I'm praying you've all heard the news shared this past Sunday and again yesterday afternoon, regarding a possible ministry move for us as a family/ministry. As I mentioned, this is a very difficult decision but one we are confident the Lord will continue to give grace and wisdom towards. There is not enough space here for me to fully communicate the work God has been doing in my life to prepare me for this moment, speaking of the last 3-5 years. But until recently the work being done was not clear. But now uncertainty has been replaced with clarity. For that I am thankful, even in the midst of the sadness that accompanies leaving. Thankfully, if the Lord continues to lead, we will be close. Same house, same school, same community and because of the cross, the same Kingdom! Please continue to pray for us moving forward. That request will be met with more specifics moving forward. Above all, know our love for you and your kids is HUGE. Words cannot express the appreciation we have for you to trust us and allow us to play a smart part in their lives. We have never taken that for granted. What a responsibility that is! One we cherish, protect and LOVE to do. We have always carried the thinking that the main disciple maker of each child is found in the home. We are here to simply assist you, the disciple maker, in that process. I'll end before I start chapter 2. Know we love you and appreciate your support and prayers. The Lord is faithful.
We kicked off a new series last night entitled THE KING SPEAKS. This is a short walk through the Sermon on the Mount. All year we've been chasing the theme that in Christ we are free'd from sin and free'd to live. How God brings this about is amazing and centers around the idea of a king. It's ultimately HIS KING (Jesus) that God brings about the ability for us to walk, live, and stand in complete freedom. We've chased this thought all year and now we end by hearing from the King himself. Below is the video of this first sermon along with the sermon notes to better follow along.
It's that time of year again, time to start collecting information regarding our graduates. We love this service, a time to honor and recognize the hard work of our graduating students. We need your help in order to pull this off. If you have a student graduating please follow THIS LINK - print out the form - and then give it to Andrew Toney by May 12th. You can also run it by the church one day and hand it off to any of our staff.
One new thing we are doing this year is giving you the opportunity to set up a small table in the foyer to showcase and celebrate your graduate. This will be a simple way for the church to see accomplishments, pictures, awards and honors. This is not a requirement of course, simply another to allow Roopville Road to celebrate their big day and accomplishment.
You will notice a spot on the form to let us know if you plan to set up a table. We will get in touch with you regarding setting that up as the day draw closer.
We look so forward to this opportunity!
Hope everyone is enjoying their spring break week. We had a great time being together last night for the few who stayed in town. Lots of fun, a time in the Word and then some more fun with a new addition to the pre-Rock experience! Also, HAPPY MASTERS WEEK!
Last night we continued working through our RedFlags series. The series is really simple - God has given us good gifts in life but often these gifts can turn into stumbling blocks! So far we have looked at Trends, Talents, Technology and Time. Last night we looked at our Tribes.
Tribes are relationships we have and they come in various formats. There are some relationships we choose and then there are some relationships we do not choose. At the end of the day there is a close group we actually choose to be with. This group is both a gift from God but as mentioned all throughout this series....they also bring Red Flags.
The key in this entire series has been the following questions:
Unfortunately we forgot to turn the sound system to the streaming device on leaving us with no audio. All that to say we have no actual recording to offer. But, we do have the notes we used. We pray you'll look it over and continue the conversation with your own TRIBE!
"FREE" Summer Camp
Last week we sent you a survey to help us as we inch closer to a decision regarding summer camp. We've had 32 responses but would definitely prefer more input. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult decision. We are currently working through the details of how to best use the space we currently have at Laguna Beach as well as any transportation issues that could arise. Below are some things we're faced with as we consider summer camp 2021.

Last night we focused on Technology! We all love our phones, televisions, game systems etc... but so quickly that which was meant for good can be used for evil. Specifically, we look at how tech is a great gift of God. However, it is marred or stained by sin. Thankfully, though, Jesus redeems technology and enables us to use it in a way that glorify God. The way we enjoy God's good gifts best is by ultimately enjoying God more thank anything.
Next week we will end our series checking out what Scripture says about our Tribes.
