Happy Thursday and Levi Strauss Day!  Yes, we really have a day set aside to honor a pair of jeans.  It's where we are I suppose.  Anyway, here are a few things we'd love for you to be aware of today, as you honor your own favorite pair of jeans!

Coming Up

Just a few things we've got coming up quickly and one thing to go ahead and put on your radar as we approach summer.  It will definitely be here before we know it.
  • DNOW - March 13th, 9a-5p:   DNOW looks a bit different this year but we will definitely have the opportunity to get together for this huge event.   Details can be found HERE, along with the registration link.
  • DNOW HELP - Typically we would need host homes for DNOW.  With this year being a bit different, we now stand in need of other things.
    1. FOOD TRUCK type vehicle - We are hoping to set up a space outside to serve lunch.  We will be having snow cones as a treat but need another food truck type vehicle to serve lunch from.  If you have something like this or an idea of how we can pull this off, get with Chris or Andrew.
    2. Volunteers - We'll definitely have many of our leaders helping with this event but could always use more.  If you're interested in serving food, holding a door, watching the halls or simply just "being here,"  let us know.
    3. Sign ups - WE DESPERATELY NEED STUDENTS TO SIGN UP IF THEY PLAN TO COME.  While the lack of having host homes may ease this burden, we still need to have a good idea of the number of students attending.
  • FREE Summer Camp - I know what you're thinking but no, camp is not free.  Free is our theme word this year thus, FREE CAMP.   We are meeting as leaders in the next few weeks to begin discussing our summer camp.  We WILL have camp on June 28th-July 2nd.  Our question is what will this camp look like and where will it be.  We ask that you pray for us as we meet and that you begin now to reserve that week for Free Camp, in whatever capacity that ends up being.

Last Night

We were able to finish up our time in Hebrews last night.  Our hope was simple, simply say what the Bible says.  Hebrews is a great book, though hard at times to follow.  It's a book that helps us see the greatness of Jesus and his impact in this world.  What is so great about Jesus?  What a question!   But a question that is answered all throughout Scripture, including Hebrews.   In a simple explanation, Hebrews teaches us that Jesus is Greater!   He's greater than all the "good" things of the Old Testament.  He fulfills or completes a work God began in the beginning, through different means.  Now this work finds it's home in the complete, finished work of Jesus.  That's great news.  That's Hebrews.

Last night we concentrated on understanding our response to this Jesus.  In light of all we've heard about how Jesus is greater, what now?  What is the right response to this?   Hebrews 11-13 help with this.  Below is both the sermon notes and video.  I pray you'll watch, read and apply as we partner together to lead students to know and follow Christ.

Happy Winter Break!   We definitely felt the impact of the break last night but enjoyed a more intimate time as a ministry.  Praying for safety and rest for all those traveling.  We missed you but realize a break is good every now and then.  But then again, your break may be a stress filled week as you try and figure out what to do with your child while you're at work, because your life/work is functioning as normal!  Many of our athletes are still practicing or have games, so the "break" is not really a "break."

Whatever situation this week finds you in we pray God is at the very center.  We look forward to having everyone back next week.  The rested, the weary, the wandering, the found are all welcomed at The Rock SM!

Coming up...

Frozen Frisbee (Feb. 21) - 1:30p:  Just a simple opportunity to get together and have some fun.  No talent required.  We'll play some ultimate frisbee and razzle dazzle (football/ultimate hybrid.)  Even if you don't play, it's a great time to come and be together.

DNOW (March 13) -  DNOW will be a 1 day event jam-packed with worship, teaching, eating, games - it'll be awesome!  You can REGISTER HERE - the cost is $20! If you have any questions let us know. We will need some volunteers to help us make it successful and safe. If you are interested in helping out let us know! As we get closer to the date, we will get some more info out! Keep an eye on your inbox for messages from us!

SUNDAY SCHOOL -  Just a weekly reminder for you or/and your student to be sure to plug into a Sunday School class. Even if you are out, you can call into your class to stay somewhat connected.  This is such a great way to be with those in your grade for time in the Word.  Also, invite others into that class!

Last Night

We decided to spend our time together in a big circle.  In light of the small crowd last night we felt it was best to embrace the intimacy that was readily available.  It was great to simply read and discuss the Hebrews 11 as a group.  For this reason we decided not to live stream, mainly because we didn't have enough microphones for everyone and the reality that once mic'ed up, most teenagers forget how to speak.

Hebrews 11 is such an awesome chapter.  It's the hall of fame of those in our faith, from the Bible.  Hebrews 11 sets the tone for the rest of the book.  It serves as a transition point from knowledge to action.  Of course there are things to apply in the beginning of the book, but it's here we notice a major shift to our response of all we've just heard, the previous 10 chapters.

It was neat to discuss this together.  From time to time it's good to make a big group small.  We saw this occur last night.  Of course our hope is to expand our number, but there are certainly things you can't always do in a large group.  Last night we were able to experience one of those things.

Below are the sermon notes from last night.  Being that there is no video, we'd encourage you to read through these notes.   For our parents, the hope is that you are informed as to what we are sharing with your students.  For our students, it's an important to not miss one piece of the puzzle that is Hebrews.  Next week, we wrap up Hebrews by concentrating on the call in light of all we've heard.

Good morning, afternoon or evening.  Pray you're all doing well and prepared for the 6 weeks of rain.  Just in time for tennis, soccer, baseball and all the other outdoors sports!  Great time but even in this, God is good.

We've got a few things to let you know about today so we'll get straight to that stuff!

Last Night

Hebrews is a book that explains how Jesus completely and finally satisfies the requirements of the law and the judgement of God.  The Old Testament is filled with thing and offices, established by God, to bring His people back into a right relationship with Him.  The only problem is these things weren't perfect, we needed something greater.  Enter Jesus.

Hebrews walks us through how Jesus consumes these roles and offices become the "something greater" we all desperately needed.   Last night we looked at sacrifices, perhaps the easiest of the OT things to see.   Below is both the video and sermon notes.   We pray you'll take it in and continue the conversation at home.  We all stand in need of this message.

I'd feel a lot better about this cold weather if it'd just go ahead and snow...
But nonetheless, happy Thursday!

LAST NIGHT

Last night we continued working through the book of Hebrews, it was a lot of fun and sadly we only have a few weeks left in Hebrews before we jump into something new!

The book of Hebrews teaches us a bunch of things... one of the biggest things it teaches us though is that Jesus is greater than anything and everything in this life. The author of Hebrews is writing to a group of people who are new Jesus followers, and they are being persecuted for that. The problem is that they are thinking about giving up, going back to their "old" way of doing. things. Their old way of doing things according to the Old Testament is a through religious sacrifices, washings etc... it was a lot. The thing that we find in the New Testament though is that through Jesus, all that "stuff" is done. Jesus satisfies it all. This wasn't a work that just came about when Jesus showed up. Rather, it was the plan all along. The author of Hebrews quotes God's promise to make a "new covenant" with his people from Jeremiah 31:31-34 (Check this out, its cool!). The problem with the Old Covenant is not that God made it wrongly, but that we couldn't keep up our end of the bargain. It needed something more, we needed something more - that something more and greater is Jesus.
So the encouragement for us today, don't give up... put down the disappointments, the worries, the trying so hard to please and satisfy and trust in Jesus. Our place with God is secured, not because of us or what we do, but in and through Jesus... who he is, what he has done, what he is doing now for us and in us.
Last night we had some trouble with the livestream, for that I am sorry. Hopefully we will be back up and running next Wednesday!
However, the sermon is below if you want to check it out!

Welcome back! Hope you have had a great week this week!

LAST NIGHT

Last night we continued working through the book of Hebrews. We talked about who Jesus is and why he is greater. The book of Hebrews is written to some folks who were ready to give up on the faith because their suffering had become overwhelming. The author of Hebrews is encouraging them to continue and not give up on Christ! We looked at how Jesus is the Great High Priest who understands us. That's encouraging - Jesus understands us. He understands us because he was tempted as we are and he suffered as we do. When you feel overwhelmed and like you can't do it, know that Jesus gets it and we can run to him!
If you missed last night the video and sermon will be attached below!

Happy rainy Thursday! Hope your week is going great, it's almost Friday!

LAST NIGHT

Last night we continued our walk through the book of Hebrews. The focus of Hebrews is simply Jesus. The author's message is that JESUS IS GREATER... greater than everything. The Hebrews are facing suffering and persecution for their faith in Jesus. They are considering turning away from the faith and going back to their old ways. The author of Hebrews is writing to them to consider Jesus and persevere in their faith!
Last night we saw how Jesus is greater than Moses and how he ultimately provides rest for those in him. Consequently though, for those who don't believe, there is no rest. The good news those is there is rest in Jesus; for you, for me, for those in Christ!
Today, likewise, we need to consider Jesus. Often our lives get wacky, hectic, and down-right overwhelming! Today, consider Jesus with me!
If you missed last night the sermon notes and the video will be linked below!
Hope you can join us next Wednesday night as we see how Jesus is our High Priest who understands us!

At our last DNOW meeting we discussed DNOW being a 1 day event jam-packed with worship, teaching, eating, games - it'll be awesome! No decisions other than the date have officially been made yet. As we start to nail stuff down, we'll let you know!
*For now, students can sign-up in the Rock for DNOW!
FIREHOUSE HELP - We've got a cool opportunity to serve in the Firehouse with the children's ministry on January 31st. It'll be a complete takeover. Well, I turned 48 yesterday.  I got a pillow, some sour candy, and we had stewed tomatoes and rice, peas, and smoked sausage for dinner after church, and I'm completely happy about all of those things!  Suzanne would say my new tires also count towards my birthday.....and Christmas....Valentine's day and so on, you get the point.  So put tires on that list.

My point in this is "my how things have changed!"  Things change with age right?  I'm not even talking about the physical things, but rather the mindset or perspective.  I would have been fine with the sour candy at age 12 but a little dismayed with any of the rest.  You know what I didn't wake up expecting yesterday morning?  A trip with a few friends to the Double Dip Depot for some Ice Cream and Presents.  Better yet, a fantastic night out to the Showbiz Pizza Place.  I forgive you and understand if you're not familiar with either place.  One was local and the other has since given way to the Chuck E Cheeses of the world. But never fear, you can click here for a blast back to the past.  I wasn't expecting anything when I woke up yesterday, just simply thankful for another day.  I was thankful for the meal, the pillow, the time in the Word with students and leaders who I love.  But again, this would not always have been the case.  My perspective has changed.  Time, maturity and the grace of God has a way of changing you.  Thanks for all the birthday wishes, not expected but appreciated!  I'm thankful for another year and also thankful the Showbiz Pizza Place didn't scar me for life.

Events & Requests

Here's what's coming up over the next few weeks along with some opportunity to serve.
  • REFUEL HELP - We are need of two folks to come help Kevin Bradley fix breakfast on Saturday morning.  First come, first serve, literally.  Once we have our volunteers I'll connect you with Kevin for more details.  But you'd need to be here around 6:45-7a on Saturday morning.
  • FIREHOUSE WORSHIP - We, The Rock SM, will be leading the Firehouse Children's Church on January 31st.  This is a great way to partner with this ministry and provide a way to serve for our students.  This is also a great way for The Rock to begin/continue building relationships with future Rock Stars.  I guess we could call them pebbles now right?  We introduced this to our students last night in order for them to sign up.  We will plan to meet with all those interested on January 24th to discuss and plan our time with the kids.  I do want to say, this is not a way of escape from " big church" but rather than an opportunity to serve and plug-in.  Serving often brings significance.
  • DNOW - March 12/13 - We will be having some form of DNOW this year.  At this point we are working through several options to ensure we have a safe and God honoring time together.  We will begin sign-ups this Wednesday.  The price will be the same regardless of how DNOW is done.  I will be meeting with several local youth pastors next week to continue the Who - What - When - Where conversation.  Be praying for wisdom!

High School Refuel

We are planned and ready for Refuel.  We've shared with you our schedule and changes but wanted to share that again, along with some other details.
  • REFUEL is FRIDAY through Saturday.  Overnight is an option. But we do need to know at check in if your student is staying.
  • All students will arrive at The Rock by 7pm.   We will have a check-in inside, temp check, and then a quick orientation/game . We'll jump into our session pretty quick.
  • Students need to go to the check in and temp station when they get inside The Rock.
  • Cost is $20.
  • Students not staying overnight can be picked up at 10pm and brought back for breakfast at 8:30am, Saturday Morning.
  • All students need to bring a Bible, Pen (preferably one highlighter), a notebook, good attitude and a mask.
  • Overnight students need to bring an air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow and a change of clothes.
  • We are asking and expecting all those attending to wear a mask at ALL times except to eat and sleep.
  • Students can be picked up at 4:30pm on Saturday.   If that changes we'll make you aware well before then.
  • Any student driving themselves to Refuel will need to check in with Chris or Andrew before leaving, even with parental permission.
  • Students are able to attend portions of the weekend.  This is better than nothing.  We will be working through the entire book of Galatians, but we feel a student can walk away with some great truths by attending one or two of the three sessions.
  • To help us best handle the responsibility of caring for your student, and for the safety of each student,  please keep us aware of their schedule.  You can do this at check-in, or when they first join us at Refuel.
  • Important:  Any student with any type of symptoms needs to stay home.  No reason to take a chance.

If you have any questions please email or text Chris/Andrew.
Though we hate to have to change up Refuel, we're thankful this option is available.

Last Night

We continued our Jesus is Greater series last night by seeing how Jesus is Greater than the Angels.  That may sound a little stranger, considering our knowledge of Angels.  So, how does this part of Hebrews help us in this life?  Great question,  part of the answer is below.  I've attached both the sermon notes and video below.  Enjoy, engage and apply!

1/6/21 Weekly Update

Happy Thursday!  Really hoping you all had a great start to this new year and are ready for whatever God has in store for us in 2021.  With so much fear, anxiety and darkness at every corner, I pray we as followers of Christ would simply BE what we ARE, Salt and Light.  Little is much when God is in it.   So be encouraged to take your little, or your "a lot,"  and make much of Jesus today.  May our conversations (posts) be seasoned with the grace and mercy that has been shown to us through Jesus.

Coming Up...

January and February tend to be pretty slow months for our ministry.  Just as we allow some time in August for students to be acclimated to school and the new schedule, we do so during January and even parts of February.  It's a "Sabbath" type time.  We still meet, have some events, but not too much.   Below are some events we have planned over the next few weeks.
  • High School Refuel - January 15/16 here at the Church.   Unfortunately the Covid numbers and risk remain high.  With this in mind we will follow the same model of our Middle School Refuel.  This proved to be a good time together and we trust our High Schoolers will have a great time together in this way.  This will no doubt change a few things but thankfully those who have signed up have already cleared their schedule to attend and those who weren't able to go due to it being out of town can maybe hop in on a few sessions.   We'll send out more details the first of next week.  For now, the new cost is $20 which includes a shirt, two meals and some other goodies.  Students will arrive at the ROCK at 7pm and we'll wrap up on Saturday around 5pm.  There is the option to stay the night or go home and return on Saturday morning.  Again, more details coming but for now, this is our plan.
  • Frozen Frisbee - January 17th - In light of our Refuel Change we will continue our hangout on the third Sundays with some frozen frisbee.  This will take place at the Central High School football field.

Each Saturday and different times of the week we have many of our students/leaders helping with Roopville Road Basketball.  This is a great way to serve and support.  If your student is interested in helping during the games have them connect with Garrett Eason.

Last Night

We began a new series in Hebrews last night called "JESUS IS GREATER."   This series will help us learn more about Jesus.  We peek behind the curtains and learn how Jesus is the Greater One.  Last night was simply an intro.  But in this intro we saw the big idea itself, the reality that Jesus is the ultimate and final expression of who God is and how God loves.  What a great reminder that Jesus is the final spoken word from God.  Jesus is the period.

Below is the recording from last night.  We did have some audio issues towards the end.  In light of this I've included my notes.  Unfortunately I deviated from them towards the end.  I would say you missed the best part...but that would be corny!

Hope you enjoy and hope it encourages and challenges you to consider your response in light of this Greater One!

12/22/20 Weekly Update

Merry Christmas!  I know we may have said that already but it's ok to say it more than once right?   So from Andrew and myself, and all the leaders of The Rock SM, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We truly do love serving and partnering with all of you.  We have the best parents and students in the world.  We treasure every opportunity to be together in person or online.  The task of helping students, leaders and parents to know Christ and make Christ known is never ending.  There will always be a need for this task.  In fact, Christmas helps us stay committed to this task. Christmas is a beautiful reminder that God keeps His promises.  That's encouraging in light of the promise that God would help us in the task He's given to us.  The task is to do exactly what our ministry is about, know Christ and make Christ known.  So thank you for yet another year of this being done.  It may have looked a bit different, but by God's grace and with His help it was done!   Please join us in praying for yet another great year.  I can't begin to imagine what 2021 will look like.  What I do know is this, God holds our future in His hands. He is capable and can be trusted.  He keeps His promises!

Coming up...

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL REFUEL - We are coming off a great time together for Middle School Refuel.  I'm so full and so encouraged.  Refuel is always a favorite trip of mine and this year did not disappoint.  While it looked different, what is most important remained the same. We journeyed through Galatians and were encouraged at the amazing reality that in Christ we are free!   Thanks to all who helped make this trip happen!
  • HIGH SCHOOL REFUEL - We are currently still praying through this trip. Basically we are waiting to see the latest Covid trends.  We want to be smart in this, like with the Middle School trip.  We will communicate all we know, as soon as we know it.  We have a few options but simply want to make the most wise decision.  Join us in prayer for that to happen!  In the meantime students can sign up.  This is very important as we continue to order shirts.  So this shirt deadline is December 30th in order to have shirt here on time.  And the shirts do look pretty cool.
  • NO ROCK on December 23rd & December 30th.  Enjoy the time off with family.  We'll continue our walk through our FREE theme by walking through Hebrews on January 6th.  What does it mean for Jesus to be KING?  Why should this matter to me?  How does it change how I go to school and live my life?  Does it even matter?  Some good, relevant questions as we dig into a better understanding of how King Jesus brings freedom to His people.

Have a great weekend and we hope to see you all Sunday morning.  Simeon's Song!  Jesus is the greatest expression of God's love and has come to redeem the world.  I can't wait!

Happy Thursday to all!  Christmas is here.  The time for breaks, too much food, last minute gift ideas or the dreaded remembering that you need that one last gift.  Whatever your lot I pray "IT IS WELL" is the message ringing in your ears.  While there seems to be so much going on around us that can easily distract and deter us from this one reality, we pray you cling to the promise that God is good and always working!  The King has come and has brought a peace that passes all understanding.  May we all worship and live in light of this peace this Christmas.  With that said, Merry Christmas from The Rock SM!

Last Night

Our planned bonfire did not happen last night due to weather.  In light of this we retreated back indoors and enjoyed a creative walk through the Christmas Story.  We sang, read, laughed and loved as we celebrated Christmas together.  There was no live stream due to there being some "non-mic'ed" moments.  But I do trust your students were encouraged and reminded that Jesus has come and his life is the greatest gift.

MIDDLE SCHOOL REFUEL

We are planned and ready for Refuel.  We've shared with you our schedule and changes but wanted to share that again, along with some other details.
  • REFUEL is Sunday through Monday.  Overnight is an option. But we do need to know at check in if your student is staying.
  • All students will arrive at The Rock at 8pm.   We will have a check-in inside, temp check, and then a quick orientation/game . We'll jump into our session pretty quick.
  • Cost is $20.
  • Students not staying overnight can be picked up at 10pm and brought back for breakfast at 8:30am on Monday.
  • All students need to bring one snack item, a Bible, Pen (preferably one highlighter), a notebook, good attitude and a mask.
  • Overnight students need to bring an air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow and a change of clothes.
  • Students can be picked up at 4:30pm on Monday.   If that changes we'll make you aware well before then.
  • Important:  Any student with any type of symptoms needs to stay home.  No reason to take a chance.

If you have any questions please email or text Chris/Andrew.
Though we hate to have to change up Refuel, we're thankful this option is available.

Again, have a great Christmas and we hope to see you all Sunday Morning!

Hope you're all having a great Thursday.  Praying for many of you who are sick and dealing with different things. Please know you have a ministry and family here at The Rock that are praying for you and fighting with you.

Next week we'll have our annual Tacky Christmas Party.  This will be a bit different as we'll be in the far back left of the church property.  We'll have some folks showing you where to go but you can head to the back left of the cemetery to park.  Comforting I know.  Regardless, we'll be in the field just away from this spot.  You'll see the lights, smoke and fire.  Our night will be simple.  We'll read the Christmas story from Luke 2, enjoy some hot chocolate, maybe sing some carols and then just hang out, safely.   We'll need you help with this.  You can help by reminding your student to bring and wear a mask while also following all the directions from our leaders as we're together.  We don't want to get to lax in our safety stuff as we get comfy with the new normal.

REFUEL Changes...

By now you've probably heard about our changes for our Middle School Refuel trip.  We hated to do this of course but felt it was necessary.  The good news is we can still accomplish the heart of the trip.  We can be together, study together, have fun together and then do so closer to home.  I've sent out a few details but quickly want to again list some broad details.   We'll have more specifics next week, after another round of leaders meetings this Sunday.
  • Students arrive at 8pm on Sunday night, December 20th.
  • Students are to be picked up TBD on Monday afternoon. (est. 4:30-5:30pm)
  • Students have the option to stay overnight or be picked up Sunday night and then magically re-appear Monday morning (a time will be given later for this option.)
  • We will have breakfast and lunch on Monday.
  • Any student with any symptom of sickness will need to stay home.
  • Each students needs a mask.
  • We will cover the entire book of Galatians in a creative, interactive and hopefully fun way.  We pray the students will leave knowing the heart behind this amazing letter which will bring them comfort and hope in light of faith in Christ Jesus.  We pray students will leave with a confidence that they can read the Bible, understand it, and apply it on their own.  We desire they slowly become independently dependent in their faith in Christ.  We desire they own their faith.  We realize they are young, we also realize they are the most able to develop these principles now.  But we will strive to make this time together fun as we learn together how to read and apply God's Word.
  • Cost will be $20 and will cover shirt, food and some material cost.
  • Any parent already paying the original price can contact Chris to figure out how to handle any reimbursement or applying that to another trip.  If you haven't already.
  • We will send out a "what to bring" list next week along with any opportunities for you as parents to assist, if you desire to do that.

Again, while this isn't plan A we realize God can still be glorified and sought after.  We plan to create a jam packed overnight event for our middle schoolers.  We ask and hope you'll be praying as the planning and carrying out of that plan go forth.

At this time our High School Refuel trip will be as planned.  We will communicate any changes or plans closer to that event.

Last Night

Our last official Rock of 2020 was last night.  Yes, we will be meeting next week but it's our Tacky Christmas Party.  If the weather helps that will actually be outside, in the field to the far left of the campus and we'll have a bonfire.  So not exactly a normal night.

Last night was all about what Jesus said about himself.  Our short Christmas series was spent looking at this King that was promised way back when.  We've seen what the Old Testament folks said and what God himself had promised.  Now we see what Jesus himself says.  It was a great night together.  It's below if you missed it or want to see it again.

Happy December!  We made it.I sure do love this time of year and am always reminded of the hope we have in Jesus.  This hope is not seasonal but there's just something about the newness that Christmas brings.  It seems to rejuvenate the reality of hope that is always present, offering an opportunity to refocus on that which matters most.

Coming Up

We have a few things that are inching closer and closer.  Follow closely and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
  • TACKY CHRISTMAS & BONFIRE, DEC. 16th  - We're adding a little heat to our annual Tacky Christmas gathering.  This year we'll be outside and around the fire.  We'll have hot chocolate and some games.  We'll also settle our hearts around the Word and in song as we reflect one last time as a ministry on the King who is coming.

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL REFUEL - Deposits are due and final payments will be due Dec. 13th.  For more information or to register/pay, please visit our  Refuel PAGE.   T-shirt order are past due for Middle School but please go ahead and get this done for the High School trip.  Keep in mind we have options....a maroon and hunter green shirt.  Choose wisely.

  • NO ROCK during Christmas.  That would be December 23rd and 30th.

Last Night

We began our last series of 2020 last night by looking at the coming of the King.  We spent our time looking back at prophecies made regarding this king and then looked at how Jesus actually fulfilled those prophecies.   This gives us hope and confidence as we walk with Him today.  Below is the video from last night.

Love you all and thankful for your partnership in the gospel!

11/17/20 Rock Weekly Update

Happy Tuesday!  In case you haven't heard, it's RockFeast Week!  With that in mind, we're coming to you a little earlier than usual with the Weekly Update.  Before I forget,  shout out to all those who have helped put this together last minute. You all are awesome!

As a reminder, if you are unsure why we do this RockFeast, please visit the RockFeast page.  It's not just an off night.  This night is an opportunity for many of our Rock students to experience that large family meal.  I'm sure we'll even have that uncle or aunt show up who pinches cheeks and gives noogies, socially distanced of course.

Some things to keep in mind as we prepare to gather tomorrow.
  • IF YOU AREN'T FEELING WELL, STAY HOME.  We must be careful in all our gatherings, especially in this special night together.
  • WE WILL BE IN THE GYM.  More room to spread out.
  • Any parent wanting to come help, come on!  We'll have a role for you in some form or fashion.  If this is you, be here at 6:30pm.
  • With this in mind, all those serving, food or drink, will be required to wear a mask and gloves.  We will also require all students to wear a mask as they go through the serving line.  Our leaders will handle the plate and "food getting" from start to finish and then hand off the finished product to the student.  From there, they will go back to their table and enjoy the feast!
  • BRING A MASK - WEAR A MASK.  Yes, you can take them off to eat!  Please take them off to eat.
  • We will be in the gym.
  • If you are bringing food, please arrive no later than 6:45p.  We'd hate to have to wait on broccoli to begin our meal.  FYI, no broccoli will be served at The RockFeast.
  • In an effort to do our best to ensure a safe meal, we will be in the gym and have our tables spread out, limiting each table to a specific amount.
  • We will need to be prepared to totally clean the gym after our Feast!  Please stay and help us as we clean and move table back to their homes.
  • THERE WILL BE NO LIVE STREAM THIS WEEK.  But we'll have pictures posted of us enjoying our Feast together.
  • WE WILL BE IN THE GYM.

In other news...

A few things we have coming up you need to know about.
  • Turkey Bowl - November 22nd at 1:30p at Central Middle School.  Whether you plan, cheer or just sit there, we'd love to have you come hang out!

  • Refuel Winter Retreat - Our Middle School trip is coming up very soon.  Keep in mind, we have a trip for the Middle School and a separate trip for our High School students.  Both trips are at the same location, Pigeon Mountain Crossing in Lafayette, GA.   Please visit our Refuel page for more details.  We have a shirt design, you can see those at that page.  For now we need to know who is going, deposits paid and shirt choices nailed down.  I'll be updating the online form to include the shirt choices.  Really hoping your student is able to attend their retreat weekend!

  • THERE WILL BE NO ROCK NEXT WEEK - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Andrew and I, along with Laykin and Suzanne are so thankful for each of you.  The opportunity we each have to partner with you in leading these students to know Christ and make Him known is such a privilege. We do not take this lightly and eagerly wait for every opportunity to love on and pour into you and your students.  Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to work out this calling in our lives.   We hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving week and are reminded of the goodness and faithfulness of God.  It is He who has first loved us.  May we all reflect that same love to a world that so desperately needs it.

***DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR ROCK FEAST ITEMS.  SIGN UP HERE

Good morning!  Of course it could be afternoon or evening when you read this.  Whenever it is, I'm thankful you're reading.  Please don't be alarmed by the length of the opening. Just having a little moment this morning as I keep chewing on the message and hope of the Faithful series as well as the central theme and message of all of Scripture.

My love for the Word of God has grown each year.  My dedication to read it and apply it is never where it truly needs to be, but my heart is to daily give it everything I have.  What does it deserve?  It deserves my attention, priority, careful study, uninterrupted devotion, and among many other things, it deserves my allegiance.  Above all other things the Word of God deserves these things and more.  This really began to click for me once I not only "knew" each book of the Bible was connected, telling the same story, but then as I actually saw these things, my relationship with God's Word totally changed.  For that reason, I often have "moments" to where I simply stand in awe of both the simplicity and power of God's Word.  Sometimes those "moments" spill over to this blog and you get a rather lengthy intro!  So, sorry about that.  But really,  I'm not sorry.  This is part of the way I can share my story.
With that said, the "moment" continues.
We do not aimlessly and blindly pick a random passage for the night.  We think through it, we plan for it, we devote much time in thinking through the big picture.  We don't just plan for a year, we plan for a 7 year cycle.  We work hard to ensure the whole counsel of God is communicated, explained with the hope of it being applied. We work tirelessly to ensure the Word makes sense to us, as teachers and leaders.  Then and only then can we pray and hope it finds a home in the heart and lives of our students.

Last night for me was a night of hope, confidence, assurance, peace and a pressure relief.  God has provided a king that can change our forever.  Do you realize the hope and peace that comes from that statement?  I can now walk through this life and stand confidently,  despite all life brings my way.  The good, the bad and the in between that life brings stands no chance against my God.  I can face any situation because the King has come and when he came, forever changed... forever.  This has encouraged my heart so much and my prayer last week and this very morning is that each student, leader and parent who hears this message will also walk away with a confidence that is not easily shaken.  I pray we all walk away encouraged to tell our story, a story of how a king has changed our forever.

In just a few short weeks we'll celebrate the birth of a child.  This child would be no ordinary child.  In fact, the forever King mentioned in 2 Samuel 7 is the King we'll celebrate this December.  Is God faithful?   Yes!   How do we know?  We could each list countless ways God has been faithful to us recently.  But the Bible is filled with accounts that show us the faithfulness of God.  Our experience and stories of God's faithfulness in our story further cement the reality that God is indeed faithful.  There is no shadow or turning in Him.

May we worship Him today in light of this faithfulness and serve with Him with every breath and ounce of energy in our lives.   We serve a faithful God who has given a faithful King.

REFUEL |  Sign-ups are underway in the back of the Rock! For all the info click HERE!

INVOLVE BOARD |  Our students are busy!  We are so excited for the many opportunities they have to do what they do for the glory of God.  We want to not only celebrate that but support them in person.  The only way for us to do this is to know when they're doing what they do.  So get your student to list their "thing" on the involve board in The Rock.  You can also email or text us the info.  Help us celebrate and support you guys!

ROCKCAST |  The RockSM has a new podcast coming out today at some point.  This podcast will be a tad different.  While there will be some light moments, Andrew and I desire to spend a little time walking through this theme of God's faithfulness and our last series.  It's helpful from time to time to see the bigger picture or a sermon/series or even yearly theme.  Today we hope to do that.   You can find the podcast on our website or almost any place you listen to podcasts.

Last Night

We entered our second to last sermon in the Faithful Series.  It's been good to follow this story and see how God's faithfulness to Israel can help us in our own walk with God.

Last night was all about how God proves his faithfulness to us in the middle of the junk.  David was constantly dealing with Saul's threats and pursuits.  Don't we find ourselves dealing with the same thing?  Sure, you may not can remember being hunted down as you hid in a cave but, we've been pursued and threatened all the same.  And in the midst of all of that....God is Faithful.

Below is the video from our time together last night.  Our internet dropped in the last few minutes but the meat of the sermon is still there!   BUT....we also have a transcript of the sermon notes to get the full scope!

Coming Up...

Hallelujah Night (Drive thru style)  |   October 31st:   This great night of ministry will look a little bit different than years past but it is still going down!  The best thing to do is to get in touch with your teacher and see how you can chip in and help ministry to all those visiting the church that night.  There are plenty of ways to serve!

|  We are currently discussing and considering what and how to do our RockFeast.  For some general information about Rock Feast, check out this page.  But we prepared for the sign up genius to go out soon to help us prepare to possibly feed our students.

Last night we continued our series in 1 Samuel by looking at a very familiar story, David and Goliath.  I won't repeat all that you can hear or read below only to say this....Our God is Faithful and there is NOTHING TOO HARD FOR HIM.  We have the choice today to believe that and walk in that confidently OR we can choose to walk in our strength, thinking everything begins and ends with us.  Our choices reveal what we truly believe to be true about God.  I pray we all walk in the confidence that there is truly NOTHING TOO HARD FOR GOD.

Happy National Nut Day!  No really, it's National Nut Day.  Your random fact of the day.
Another fact is that our students are busy and all over the place.  We're so excited God gives us avenues to live out the Gospel.  We had volleyball yesterday, football and softball today.  We'll have another round of band competitions coming this weekend along with Cross Country and Golf the following week.  Not to mention the clubs, classes and other extra stuff.  Way too much to list.  All that to say, our students are busy which by default means you parents are also busy.  May God give us strength and wisdom as we wake up each new day.  Seeking to use each "packed" day for Him and His glory!

Below are some updates we'd love for you to know about as we look back and look ahead.

Upcoming Events

OCT. 24 | TRUCK STOP MINISTRY: This is happening this Saturday morning.  Please contact Chris ASAP if you are interested.  This is not a "show up" event, we'll need to know who is planning to attend.  Once you call, text or email we'll share the details with you.

OCT. 24 | ROCKLAB:   This Saturday from 6-8pm in building C (the small building beside The Rock.)  The Rock Lab is all about helping students, leaders and adults read the Bible for all it's worth. We do this by teaching principles or tools that can help us get to the heart of what God would have us know and do.  These principles are not foreign to us, we actually use them all the time with everyday things.  We'll have some fun and see how the movie Finding Dory can help us see this.  Ultimately helping us better read, understand and apply Scripture. Is that even possible?  For Dory to help us.  It is, just maybe not in the way you think.   Hope to see you Saturday as we dive deeper in Finding Dory and 2 Samuel 7!  We'll have coffee and some wrapped snacks, you bring the Mask.

OCT. 25 | SS IN PERSON: This week we are meeting in person for Sunday School!  Please be aware that students will meet together in The Rock at 9:30a for a few minutes and then go to their actual classroom.  We're excited this day is finally here and hope to see you all at 9:30a.  Don't forget to bring and wear your mask!

Last Night

Last night we continued our study in 1 Samuel, a series called Faithful.  It's a beautiful story that shines a bright light on the faithfulness of God. Throughout this story and throughout our story there are many moments of weakness from God's people.  There are many times when, if left on our own, we would surely fail miserably.  But thanks be to God, his faithfulness is well, faithful and sure and steady.  We see this last night in the story of God's people.  That God would be faithful in the midst of their choices going badly.   Below is the video and sermon notes from last night.

Thank you all for the opportunity and privilege to partner with you and your family in the Gospel.  God is faithful and our hope is to help students come to know Him and make Him known.  See you all Saturday night!

HAPPY FALL BREAK! Hopefully you are enjoying your fall break and have spent it recuperating and reenergizing!  (Yeah right... we never spend breaks resting, ha!) Regardless, I hope you are having a great week!
We had a great night last night and have a lot coming up, check the details below!

LAST NIGHT

Last night we continued through our series, FAITHFUL, walking through the book of 1 & 2 Samuel. It's been great thus far! Last night we saw how God is faithful even when we choose wrongly. No doubt, daily, we make poor choices, we choose things over God, even though he has been graceful towards us - we still walk away. Though we are undeserving God is FAITHFUL to continue his pursuit of us. It is encouraging to know God will pursue us even when we don't pursue him. That doesn't give us permission to slack off. Rather, it gives us confidence that as we are pursing him when we fail, he is graceful!
If you missed the sermon from last night, check out the video and notes below!

UPCOMING

OCT. 18| ULTIMATE FRISBEE: we will be getting together this Sunday, Oct. 18th at Central Middle School football field to hang out and play ultimate frisbee together! We had a great turn out last time! If your not into frisbee, come and still hang! Grab a bit to eat after church and we'll see you at the field around 1:30p!
OCT. 24| TRUCK STOP MINISTRY: Saturday, Oct. 24th, we are headed to the the truck stop in Temple to hand out bags to truckers. This is a really neat experience and great mission. If you are interested shoot Chris or Andrew and text/email and they'll get you connected.
OCT. 24| ROCKLAB: Next Saturday, October 24th will be our next ROCKLAB! This is a time where we take a section of Scripture and take a deeper dive into it! Our last two went great and we know this one will be just as great! We are going to dive deeper into 2 Samuel 7! Invite a friend!
OCT. 25| SS IN PERSON: Starting Oct. 25th, we will finally be able to meet physically together for our Sunday School classes! This is great news and we are extremely excited! If you get sick or are out of town, don't worry - we will still have the Google Hangout option available! Feel free to invite a friend!
REFUEL: Sign-ups are underway in the back of the Rock! For all the info click HERE!
INVOLVE BOARD: for those of you that don't know, we have a board in the Rock where student can write down their events for the RockSM leaders to see how and when they are involved. This is a great opportunity for relationships to be strengthened. Just throw up your schedule on the board and will come and check it out!

Hope everyone is doing good today and excited about a packed weekend.  I guess if you don't have a packed weekend you're equally if not more excited about that.  We had another great crowd last night as we enjoyed our 4th week back together.  While church is not the only thing getting back to full steam, we're thankful for those who are able to join us in person.  And now we're thankful to be able to not only stream our service but to archive it on Facebook and Youtube.  Such a great way to make sure no child is left behind.  Little Bush throwback there.
I know you're all busy so let's get straight to the goods.

Coming up...

  • New Podcast coming out later today.  In fact, as soon as I finish this update we'll head over and record it.  Today's episode is all about OLD PEOPLE.  It should be pretty good.  You can find the podcast on the front page of our website or most podcast players.
  • Frisbee in the Fall - October 18th.  We had a great crowd last month and hope to have even more in a few weeks. Everyone is invited, even you "old people."  So plan to grab lunch after church and then meet us at the Central Middle football field.
  • Truck Stop Ministry - October 24th.  An awesome way to give back to those who provide for us in so many ways.  This is a great encouragement and ministry to these men and women.  Email Chris or Andrew if you plan to come.
  • Rock Lab - October 24th.  This is a night where we dive deep into the Word.  We learn how we can better read and understand the Bible.  We'll spend out time together by looking at I and II Samuel.  This will be from 6-8pm.  The plan for the year is to have 6 of these a year.  All in an effort to help students become students of the Word as they seek to hide God's Word in their hearts.
  • REFUEL - Our winter retreat will be here before you know it.  For more information or to register, please visit THIS PAGE.
  • Sunday School - October 25th - We begin in person Sunday School soon....start making plans.
  • SUNDAY NIGHTS - We begin THIS WEEK meeting together again for our PM Service.  This week we have the amazing opportunity to ordain 2 of our own.  Andrew and Jacob will be ordained into ministry this Sunday night.  I pray you'll come out and support these 2 young men as they "officially" begin their life in ministry.

Last Night

We continued our new series FAITHFUL last night. It's a journey through the books of Samuel.  Our hope is to help students see the faithfulness of God through this book but then also in the overarching story of the Bible.  In doing this we are reminded that God is in control, not only in the story of the Bible but in our story too!   Last night was all about the counterfeit stuff.  We looked at how Israel forsook God and ultimately saw God's response to that forsaking.  A needed reminder of God's faithfulness and hope even as we pursue other things.  Below is the transcript from the sermon as well as the video.

I do want to remind you that we have 1 Samuel Scripture journals available for $5.  This is such a great way to trek through this amazing book with us on Wednesday nights.  What a treasure it would be to later go back and see notes from the 15 yr old you.  I know, a bit scary perhaps, but cool nonetheless.  Have a great weekend and we'll see you all on Sunday.

Welcome to October!  There was a time I wasn't too sure we'd make it here.  But here we are and I'm thankful to God for yet again showing His faithfulness to us.  There's just a few things to remind or inform you about as we continue to ease back into some regular activities and events.

Last night - FAITHFUL

Last night we began a new series called FAITHFUL.  Faithful is a journey through the book of Samuel.  Our hope is to trace out the promise of hope God gave to us in Genesis 3:15.  The question of HOW will be big in this series.  How did God show His faithfulness to His creation?  How did God work out this promise of hope?  We know the story of King David is a big part of this plan.  We know the thread of the offspring is a big part of the Bible.  It is THE part of the Bible that ultimately finds it's home in JESUS.   But for now, in Samuel, how does God work this out?  I'm excited about the big picture students will get this year!

As we better understand the big picture of the Bible we also understand the intricate details of our lives.  You see, as we see God weaving this thread of hope through the Bible we're able to gain confidence and trust in a God who is also ever present in our situations.  Samuel presents many sticky situations, seemingly hopeless situations that we can relate to in our lives.  Maybe not a physical giant.....maybe not a lack of the Word in our lives....maybe not the fact that we're barren.  But you know we face some hopeless situations.  Adam and Eve left creation in disarray, in a seemingly hopeless situation.  But how did God respond?  With a promise of hope.  From the beginning until now, in the midst of an ever changing climate, God Is Faithful!

Last night we began this story in Samuel and then brought it home to us.
The sermon transcript is available below as well as the video of the night.

We had many out due to school activities and other things but we are so thankful for the many who joined us in person....that's been such an encouragement to me.  Not the number per-say, but the fact that we can be together again!

Happy Fall Ya'll!   Hope you're enjoying the cooler weather.  I will remind you that this is 2020, so be prepared for a few more heat waves.  I'm sure it'll be back in the 90's with 100% humidity just in time for Thanksgiving or your family bonfire.

Only a few things to mention today.  Things to know and/or do.

Things to know and/or do...

  • The Great Reversal - The story of the Bible is a story of a great reversal. The life of the one that belongs to Christ screams this story. It's the story of a hopeless situation that has found it's home in something that brings a hope so desperately needed. The Imposter series introduced this story. A perfect creation interrupted by sin, only to be met with the love, grace, justice and HOPE of God. A people and creation enslaved by sin is launched into a journey of restoration, healing and ultimately freedom. 1 & 2 Samuel picks up this storyline or thread way down the road. This book tells it's own story of reversal as it continue the thread we saw begin in the very beginning. All that to say we begin our journey through this amazing book next week. A brisk walk through Samuel in a series we're calling, The Great Reversal.
  • 1 & 2 Samuel Scripture Journals - We are selling these journals for $5 at the check in station each week, until they are gone. Such a great way to store up God's Word and a bit of history as you make notes from The Rock and your own personal reading. It's such a treasure to go back and see what 15 yr old Chris was thinking as he sat through his own church service. I would share some excerpts but we probably want to let most of those thoughts remain fast asleep! But it is a great way to consolidate and store up this time in Samuel.
  • Frisbee in the Fall - We did this last Sunday and will plan to meet again on Oct.18 at 1:30pm , just after Sunday lunch. It's a simple thing, an opportunity to be together and have some fun. Everyone is welcome!
  • RockLab - This is a time where we journey through a book of the Bible. We get into groups, dive deep in Scripture and simply hope to grow in our knowledge of the Word and our ability to dig deep. Next RockLab is October 17th & 24th.
  • Refuel - We kicked off our signups for Refuel last week. For some general information and sign up links, please visit our REFUEL PAGE

Last Night

Another great crowd joined us live and in person as we finished up our Imposters series.  This series centered around the question of WHY.  Why did we need freedom?  Why did we need saving?  Why did God need to act on our behalf?  Genesis 1-3 tells an incredible story.  The most amazing thing reality is that this was only the beginning.  Last night we saw this as the Plan to Redeem was unleashed.  All would not be lost.   Below are the notes and video from last night.

Hello!  Right out of the gate I just want to thank God for the opportunity to be together last night.  We had around 80 folks brave the elements and join us live and in person at The Rock.  It was so good to be together again although it did feel a little weird.  When we learned we would be able to meet again we counted back and realized it would be a span of 6 months in between our in person meetings.  That's crazy.   Needless to say, there was some kinks we needed to work out.  Overall, last night was good and felt as though we'd never left.  In some ways it really did feel like it had been ages since we met. It looked a bit different with chairs spanning all the way back to where ping pong tables usually sat. It felt different having live human beings in the room with us.  Remember, we have been doing the live stream for 6 months.  So I had to stop myself from asking why everyone was there!   So again, thanks to all those who came, we could not be any more excited about last night and the weeks to come!

The good news is that we are still able to live stream our services.  We are so excited to provide this way of staying connected when you're not able to attend in person.  We realize weather, sickness, and activities sometimes happen.  Isn't it great that you can still participate in the service when you can't physically be here?

And how about our leaders?  They were great last from the check in station, temperature checks, long distance hugging fests.  From the moment a student walked in the room they were greeted and loved.  You can train leaders but you simply can't re-create the canvas.  Thankfully we have leaders who need very little training.....they just need to be unleashed.
So thanks to all the leaders for making last night go as smooth as possible.

So now, we move on the next week and next steps to normalcy.
With that said, below we have activities coming up as well as the service video and notes.

Thing to know and do....

  • This Sunday - We will be playing some ultimate frisbee at 1:30 at the football field at Central Middle School.  We learned last night that there is an alternative game called "razzle dazzle."  Either way, it's a great way to be together outside a bit.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come hang out.
  • Refuel - We began announcing this last week but are now making the plea for students to sign up.  You can sign up at anytime for either trip.  Unfortunately you'll need to fill out both forms if you have a student in each age group.
                MIDDLE SCHOOL FORM
                HIGH SCHOOL FORM
  • The RockCast has another new episode.  This can be found on the front page of this website or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
  • Masks - Just a reminder that masks are encouraged at The Rock.  Better safe than sorry.
  • YouVersion App - This is a free Bible app.  We put our outline and any verses we'll use during the night on this app.  It can be found under "events" within the app.  We can be found beginning 6pm each Wednesday night.

Last Night

I want bore you with too many details. Last night we continued our Imposters Series.  Below you can find the sermon notes along with the live stream recording of the entire service.

We hope everyone has a great rest of the week and weekend.  We look forward to seeing everyone Sunday morning as we worship the victorious King together, in person.  I doubt we'll ever again take that for granted!

Rock Students, Parents and Leaders!  Hope you're all doing well today.  It seems we're slowly getting back to the school schedule.  If I'm not mistaken we now have all our Rock SM students back in school.  Of course that means band, sports and homework are also in full effect.  All of this just in time for us to be back together on Wednesday night for The Rock SM.  More on that below but I pray to see all the students back in the seats beginning this Wednesday night.  We know most everything has started back up, but we pray you'll notch out some time as we gather again as a student body.  But before we get into Wednesday, here are some things to know and also some things to consider as you plan.

Tidbits....

  • The RockCast - Don't forget to check out our Podcast.  You can do this by going to the home page of this website or through your favorite podcast app.
  • September 16th - The Rock Returns!  6:45p (Live stream/Recording Available)
  • September 20th - Frisbee in the Fall - Actually this could be more of Ultimate Football. Either way it's an opportunity for us to have some fun after Sunday Church. More info on this is coming this Wednesday.
  • 1/2 Samuel Scripture Journals available for purchase - We have 5 on hand but you can also purchase directly from our Reading List.  You can also find other books we've recently gone through, are currently reading through or have merely recommended.
  • Crew Necks & Hoodies - We purchased this just before Covid and still have some left to purchase.  Make sure you ask a leader this Wednesday.  It's almost hoodie season!
  • REFUEL 2020 & 2021 - Each year we take our Middle School and High School students on two separate trips.  Just today we finalized details regarding both trips.  Our MS students will travel to Pigeon Mountain once again on December 20-22.  Our HS student will also head to Pigeon Mountain but will do so over MLK Weekend, January 15-18.  One big reason for swapping our HS location was money and location.  2 hours of driving versus 6 hours just seems to be a better idea going and coming!  Look for more details on this trip as we will begin registration in a few weeks.  Students will be encouraged to begin signing up in order for us to have a better idea on space/transportation/leaders.  Of course, much like everything, these plans could change.  But we must plan now as if we're going then.  And as always, we will be praying for wisdom and direction as we look to any over night or at home activity or event.

 The Rock Returns - September 16th - 6:45pm

We mentioned this exciting news last week but want to remind you of any precautions as well as instructions as we prepare for the return of The Rock in person service.

I will attach the plan again below.  Here are a few highlights and procedures details.
  • If your student feels sick, is sick or sick of being sick....they need to stay home.
  • If they have been exposed to Covid, they need to stay home.
  • Students will/must check in on the front porch.  Leader actually checks them in on iPad.
  • A leader will check the temperature of any person entering the building.
  • Students head in.  Once they are in, we are asking them to stay inside.
  • Once inside, students will be ask to head straight to a seat, staying there until we dismiss.  Remember, we are starting at 6:45pm.
  • The seats are spaced and marked.  We have more seats set up than we need or can fill, but this is done in order to keep chairs spaced out.  Seats with tape will not be used.
  • Mask are recommended but not required.
  • Bible are recommended but not required.
  • We will be streaming the service on Facebook and YouTube live.

Again, here is our official document for a more detailed look at preparations/procedures

We began our first official sermon series of FREE entitled "Imposter."   This series will mainly answer one HUGE question, "WHY WAS FREEDOM NEEDED."  This may seem like a simple question but I think it's important to understand that from the very beginning there has been a thread running throughout all of Scripture.  That thread was there to remind us that God has been in control the whole time.  But how did we get to where we needed to be FREE'd?  I could go on and on with explanation so I'll just link the service below as well as give you the notes from last night.

BUT AGAIN, NEXT WEEK YOUR STUDENT CAN JOIN US LIVE AND IN PERSON!
Until then, have a great rest of your week and we'll see you all Sunday and then together, for the first time in 6 months, worship as a student body in THE ROCK.  I'm excited!

Hope everyone is doing good on this sunny Thursday!  If you're reading it on a day other than Thursday, hope that one is equally as sunny and good.

By now you have heard the exciting news that The Rock, along with other Wednesday night discipleship opportunities will begin meeting together again, in person on SEPTEMBER 16th.

We've included an initial plan to ensure we approach and enjoy this special day in a safe and right way.  Attached below is our plan.  There are things we have and are doing on our end.  There are also some things for you to keep in mind as you come back to The Rock.

Before you read the letter know this:
  • We will still make The Rock SM Live available online.  You can find this on our Facebook page and Youtube channel.  You can also find it on RRBC's Youtube channel.  Links to The Rock's social platforms can be found on almost any page of this website.
  • Things can quickly change in our culture. We are constantly checking the status of local schools and Carrollton in general.  As of now we are a go for September 16th but please keep in mind that could change quickly.  We pray they won't and we're able to stick to this plan!
  • Most importantly, if you or your student is sick or experiencing any symptoms, it's best to stay at home.  This really goes for any sickness but especially now with the threat of Covid and the reality that while many can endure and recover, many simply cannot.
  • Any parent wanting to help us in The Rock as we open again can contact Chris.
The Rock Re-Opening Plan

Quick Hitters:

  • A group of High School guys meet every Wednesday at 7:20 at Chickfila for a Bible study.  This is open to any High School guy.  Contact Andrew for more details.
  • The RockLab is coming in October.  This is a time where we walk through a book of the Bible, learning principles that help us get to the heart of God's Word.  These principles translate to any book of the Bible. All for the purpose of best understanding and applying all that God has said.  Be looking for these dates.
  • The RockCast is on episode 3 and going strong.  You can listen to that right here on our website.  Just look on the front OR you can search for The RockCast on most any podcast app.  Give it a listen as we simply have conversations about life, culture and Scripture.
  • FREE CAMP 2021 - We really should have thought through our theme for The Rock SM this year a little better. Just to confirm, Free is the theme, not the cost. And...since we're on the topic of camp, we confirmed our dates for Summer Camp 2021.  Those dates are June 28th -July 2nd.  Mark your calendars now!
  • STUDENT HELP - We are looking for some students who desire to lead and be a part of the Wednesday night service. With that in mind, we are currently looking for some vibrant, able to speak in public students who can help with announcements, scripture reading and helping us lead the Rock each Wednesday night. If interested contact Chris.

Last Night - FREE OVERVIEW

Last night we went in to depth on our new theme of FREE.  I won't go into too much detail here.  But I'd encourage you to watch the service from last night.  I've also included two things below that may be helpful just to read through.  One is our series direction for the year and the other is the rough transcript for last night.

We are very flexible in our series and plans as we move throughout our year. But we also think it's important to have direction, a plan.  Each year we have a one word theme that provides this direction.  Our hope is that each student will have a comprehensive view and teaching of the entire Bible by the time they graduate High School.  We won't teach through every book bu the hope is we touch the important themes that God's Word brings out.  We do this through many avenues and events.  But no event or activity can replace our time together each Wednesday night.  So we give much thought to our series and how they tie together.  So this year we walk through the idea that we are FREE.  Through Christ we are free from sin and free'd to live.  Why we needed this, How God brings it, and What it means for us now is what this year is all about.
Year Overview.

Welcome back to another weekly update.  Praying all the "back to school" folks are off to a great start to school.   Wanted to give you a heads up as to some things going on in and around our student ministry this week and in the weeks to come.

This, That and The Other

  • Typically this upcoming week would be our huge kick-off night where we introduce our theme, update student contact info and pictures, and enjoy some free snow cones.  Though we can still do some of those things we'll actually really miss the one thing we can't do as of yet, be together.  Really hope you'll join us online next Wednesday as we introduce our new theme and jump into a crucial series diving deeper into WHY WE NEED THE GOSPEL.  Life, issues and culture seem to make more sense as we have a better understanding of the Gospel, namely, why we need it.
  • Speaking of the Contact Info and Picture stuff....did you know you can sign into the community builder app and keep your families information up to date?  In fact, that would be greatly helpful to us.  So if you are interested in updating little Johnny's picture or making sure your cell phone stuff is not still going to the bag phone, visit THIS LINK, sign in and edit away.
  • As you read in the churches weekly update, we are getting closer to resuming even more of our normal activities.  We hope to share some of that exciting news next week on The Rock SM Live.  Even more of a reason to tune in next week.

Last Night

Last night brought to close our 4th series in the Covid Era.  It's hard to believe we've been doing this thing, thing long.  But I'm thankful for the resources we've had to NEVER MISS ONE WEEK OF TEACHING.  That's big to me.  At the end of the day that is the most important thing we can do for our students, teach/lead them to Christ.  I'm proud of our team for making that happen and for our life group leaders for remaining in community with our students.

I won't go into much detail regarding last night but simply give you the night notes and the video.  Praying you'll dive in with us as we finish up the series, This Changes Everything.
