Good afternoon! Hope everyone is doing and geared up for the weekend. For me and 60 other folks from the student ministry we'll be heading up to Blue Ridge, GA and Laughing Bear Lodge for Refuel. This is always a very low key time together in the Word and mountains. I'm looking forward to discovering all the Bible says about relationships. The good news is we'll be making the teachings available online via our booklets. So if you're not able to attend as a student or you just want to follow along as a parent, you'll be able to! Those will be up early next week.
If you do have a student attending Refuel all the information you need to know can be found on our Refuel Page. We will be pulling out at 5pm tomorrow (FRIDAY the 15th).
This means you need to arrive by 4:45p so we can load, pray, hug and pull away. Student may want to eat a healthy snack before they leave. We will be having a light dinner once we arrive at Laughing Bear. If you have any questions please email, text or call me!
Excited to be back in the Word with our students. Before I forget make sure you check out our devotions from the year. Our hope this year is to give students a healthy overview of what the Bible is about. Our devotions fill in some of the gaps but also affirm or teach these in a more depth manner. I can only image that understanding the story of the Bible not doing anything but help. I only wish I wasn't quite so old when it all first clicked for me.
So last night Micah did a great job of reminding us about the Law and about our need for it in the Old Testament but then most importantly how Jesus comes to fulfill the Law (Matt. 5:17.) The Law is good and it was needed. It had many great purposes but it also was not perfect, complete. The Law lacked. But where it lacked Jesus was perfect, complete and absolutely filling. So last night Micah helped us understand this and see Jesus as all we need. There is a perfect sacrifice....there is a great High Priest....there is a way for our hearts to be changed and there is a plan to reach the nations! These all find their ultimate home in Jesus.
We can be full of hope and joy because we know Jesus. The prayer is we know Him and follow Him. Another way to say this is to Abide in Him. Christ is here, the King has come...may we know and follow Him.
The "short" summation or main idea of the Bible is this:
God working in His creation for His glory.
The only missing piece is Christ. So to our main idea we add:
eventually through Jesus
When you think about this is the story of the Bible. God working in His creation for His glory, eventually through Jesus. The good news is we've finally made it to Jesus on Wednesday nights. The cool news is we see Jesus fulfilling many things we heard about in the Old Testament. Jesus points back to the OT and as He does we see that Jesus was actually in the OT. Only now we see Him fully, freely, clearly. What was a shadow of things to come in the OT we now see in full.
So then.....may we know Him and follow Him.
Check out the devotion for this week for more information and our outline from last night.
Why a blog?
A great way for parents and ministry to connect and continue the conversation of what's going on at The Rock.
