FONT TOO SMALL?
If you have trouble reading this blog in your email try clicking the title above; "9.23.15 Rock Update." This will open it up in your browser for an easier read.
Have you ever attempted to summarize a book or a movie? Think about a movie and then think about how you summarize it or put the main idea of that movie into one nice sentence. It can get hard. We see or hear at least one movie trailer a day on TV. Maybe a friend tries to tell you about this book they're reading or new app they've gotten and they struggle with making the message clear. They know all of it's workings and sometimes struggle to put it into a nice statement. What about the Bible? How would you summarize the Bible? If you had to create a small sentence to share it's main idea with someone how would you do it? That's difficult when you consider the amount of genre's, authors and story lines that are present in the Bible. But as we begin our journey through the Bible this year we thought it was important to try and establish a main idea for the Bible. So what is the Bible about exactly? Though broad we feel this statement is a great way to describe, in short, what the Bible is all about: God working in His creation for His glory through Christ.
Sure, we could edit this a hundred times over but I think we'd come back to the root of what's communicated.
When all the dust settles the Bible is about God working in His creation for His glory through Christ.
Last night, with this main idea in mind, we begin looking at the most beautiful story in the world. How does it all begin? Feel free to read the notes which are attached but in short we see 3 main thoughts established.
The world begins. From nothing, darkness, God creates. Immediately man sins and corruption, chaos and confusion is present. But in spite of this sin God would not give up on His distrustful and disobedient creation. He would show grace. Thank God for His grace, mercy, guidance, love and patience. Aren't we all in need of this each day?
Devotion guides are crucial this year as we journey through the Bible. We'll go from Genesis to Revelation from September to May. There's no way we could cover everything! We can't even do this in our lifetime. But we can better understand the story of the Bible. So on Wednesdays we will hit some high points and then during the week, through the devos, we will hit some of the details. So it's a great way for students, and even you as parents, to gain a great perspective of God and His Word. What a great privilege it is to understand this story, the greatest story in the world!
Meet & Greet
This is going down this Sunday after the morning service. We changed dates simply because we (I) was not adequately prepared after returning from Honduras. We will have a table set up in the Cafe' area and also upstairs, above the main foyer.
We'd love for you to stop by and say hello, make a deposit for Refuel and/or Abide Summer Camp. Those making a deposit by this week will receive a $10 discount for that trip.
Besides the deposits we also would love to see you, update your contact info, give you a yearly consent to fill out and also give you some other information. So please stop and see us on your way out.
Why a blog?
A great way for parents and ministry to connect and continue the conversation of what's going on at The Rock.
