A few things to let you know about today.
1. Last Night
Had a great time getting serious about sin and learning how to deal with it last night. We must understand that we are in a constant battle with sin. It is waiting for us at every turn no matter what our age is in life. We must be ready to battle. Last night we turned our attention to dealing outwardly with sin. How do we live clean in the midst of junk and dirt? Are we equipped to do this? Are we attempting to do this in our strength or through the wisdom and strength God gives?
We ended our night by asking the students to write down some things they are struggling with or have questions about. We are willing and prepared to address these things the next several weeks. We can be sure of this.....if we are not willing to answer their questions about sex, drugs, image, worth, alcohol, phone use, and marriage there are others who are more than willing to provide an answer. We must move passed the comfortable and deal with the junk.
Here is last nights notes for you to follow along.
2. Kingdom Come DNOW - March 3-5
Dnow is coming up in March. We have begun signups for this event. You are free to sign up at any time....the cost is $25. You can do this online by clicking HERE.
You can also go the traditional route by handing me a check or cash. If you choose to go the traditional route we do need this registration form turned in along with the payment.
We'll have more details later about DNOW but for now we are looking for servers for our lunch and dinner on Saturday. We also need host homes for this weekend. If you can help in any way please email Chris@roopvilleroad.org.
We do realize this is the same weekend as the Cupcake Chase. We are hoping to work this into our schedule in some way. Through service, actually running or simply hanging out we hope to be engaged in the event in some way.
This is a long way off but we are currently gauging interest for our Roatan Mission Trip. Our dates are a bit up in the air currently. The two dates we have currently are July 8-15 or July 15-22. If you are interested please email Chris. We will have an interest meeting to answer any questions if we feel the interest level is strong enough to carry out this trip. Please discuss and pray as a family if you are interested. This is a great trip for students as well as families. Let us know!
We continued our series "Living Clean in a Dirty World" last night. This series deals with the Inward and Outward dirt we deal with everyday. We deal with stuff daily that comes from outside. Before we can think about dealing with that outside dirt we really need to deal with the dirt from within.....our own sin, weight and baggage.
The last two weeks we've dealt with this inward stuff and just faced the reality that we all battle with sin and must deal with it. Last night we saw 10 things that will help us deal with this junk! It is a great list and I pray it's a great help for you as well.
Refuel (High School)
This weekend is our Refuel Winter Retreat for our High School students. Praying for a great weekend together in the Word, at the beach. I've attached below a packing list and schedule along with some other information regarding the trip.
WE ARE LEAVING AT 5PM from the Church. So that means be here at 4:45p.
Students need to eat prior to loading up if at all possible. We will only make one restroom stop.
It was good to be back together at The Rock last night! I love the time away but also dread not being able to be together on Wednesday nights. It's good to be back in the swing of things.
The second half of the year always seems to go by so fast. The Fall seems slow as we transition to school but this second half is filled with events and activities and then SUMMER. So buckle in and get ready for the ride!
We had a great, great, great time with our Middle School students in December and now turn our attention to the High School trip coming up next weekend, January 13-16.
We will be leaving at 5pm on that Friday. Students need to eat something prior to arriving at the church. We know this is an odd time to leave but we are eager to arrive at the beach and seek to make Saturday a full day there rather than a travel day.
Please visit our Refuel page for more information.
We began a new series last night entitled "LIving Clean in a Dirty World." Our hope is to help students deal with the world we live in. There are many debates, issues, questions swirling around which makes it really hard to live clean, for the Lord and His glory. So how do we approach homosexuality, the whole 'what is marriage' issue? How do we deal with racial tension or just flat out sin? The first thing we must do is look inward, at our own lives. As Jesus pointed out in Matthew 7:3 we must deal with the plank in our own eye before turning outward to our neighbors or world.
So last night we were pretty simple in saying this: We must realize there is a battle with sin and we must wage war on that sin. We do this by trusting the faithfulness of God through Christ. We all struggle with sin but how are we responding to it? Petting it or waging war against it?
Why a blog?
A great way for parents and ministry to connect and continue the conversation of what's going on at The Rock.
