Hope everyone is doing good and getting into the swing of things with the new school year now rolling right along. I'm sure everyone's spirits are good with the smell of football in the air. If football is of no interest to you we really need to talk soon!
NEW YEAR KICK-OFF:
Excitement is happening at The Rock as the crowds are up and everyone is ready for a fresh start. We're excited as a ministry for our new theme this year which we'll kick off September 7th. We'll also have sno-kones that night....for free! I'm sure the sno-kones are secondary for the kids and they are more excited about hearing about our theme for the year....surely that's the case. Either way....we're anticipating a big night. Of course the sno-kones are for those at The Rock but I'm sure parents and others can buy a sno-kone once all the students/leaders have been served! That's September 7th!
MS POOL PARTY
This Saturday, August 20, is our MIDDLE SCHOOL POOL PARTY at our house, 10 Logan Ridge Drive, Carrollton, GA 30116. We'll kick off at 6p and you can come get your rugrat BY 9p. Anything after 9p and we call animal control, for obvious reasons. Students just need to bring a towel and maybe something sweet.
MEET AND GREET
We'll once again have a meet and greet after the morning service on September 11th. This is a simple time for us to get to meet......and greet some parents and even students who may not be connected with our ministry. This is also a time to place deposits for REFUEL and SUMMER CAMP. If you do so you receive a small discount on those trips. Deposit amounts must be $20/each or greater. We'll have more info on this later but we did want to get you those dates.
Had a great time in the Word last night as we dig into what a "HE>i" life looks like. It's real easy to say Christ must increase and that I must decrease, John 3:30. It's also really easy to say that GOD is greater than us.....than I. But how do we live in a such a way? Are there things that can help? Absolutely! This doesn't mean it will be easy but God has not left us lacking when it comes to knowing and doing His Word.
Attached are the notes from last night as well as the CARD from last night.
*the CARD is our way to announce, equip and lead our students.
That's what's going on at The Rock.
Thankful for the opportunity to lead your students!
What a difference a week makes....and the fact that school has started!
You never know what summer will bring with schedules. Our last several weeks at The Rock has been a bit small. Last night The Rock was once again covered with students and leaders. It was good to see everyone back and excitement is building for a great year together for the purpose of knowing and following Christ.
Where did summer go anyway?
We realize August is still a busy month...well...find one month that isn't busy right?
We do realize that the transition from summer to school is still going down and for this reason we have somewhat of a bumper series before we kick off with our new theme in September.
HE>i is a series built around John 3:30. It is a "back to school" type series but also a very foundational principle for all believers to know. God is greater than I.....this is a belief thing....we must believe that God is greater. But it's also an action thing. Things should change in your life if you truly believe that God is greater. Even the demons believes God was greater....their lives just didn't line up with that belief. They believed but chose to not allow it to influence their life.
The hope is that students and leaders will believe and trust that God is greater but that their lives will look different as a result. So for the next few week we'll spend some time look at three areas of our life.....SCHOOL - CULTURE - DOING. God is greater than i.....if this is true School will be different....trust me. If God is greater than i the way I respond to life, circumstances differently than Culture....I won't buy the lie CULTURE is selling. But then also if God is greater than i my Doing changes. What I do, how I do, when I do it looks a bit different.
So essentially we want students to be challenged with John 3:30 and see that transform:
WHY they do WHAT they do and HOW they do WHAT they do WHEN they do WHAT they do.
Last night was school....it was a lot of fun! Students love talking about school right?
Talk to your students about what they learned....came away with and were challenged by as we looked at the Word.
For me the biggest point of conviction and challenge was the fact that everything I do is to be done for the glory of God. EVEN SCHOOL!!! One day what I learn in school will help me to obtain a job. That job is my platform for many things....the biggest in our minds is that my job allows me to provide for my family. The "HE>i" thinking says the biggest thing is that my job is first an opportunity to glorify God. God will provide all my needs. So school is crucial in many ways and as we begin to see that God is greater than i it changes how we view things....through what lens are we viewing this world?
Here at the notes if you care to look at the sermon notes.
