Last night we took some time to take a more detailed look at the gospel. The book of Acts is mainly about the church being created and then being sent out on mission. The mission of the church was to "be witnesses" according to Acts 1:8. The gospel is what they are sent out to share, declare, lean on and live. When we step back we find that we too have been given this same calling. We are called to go out and share, live, declare the gospel of Jesus Christ. But have you ever tried to share something you didn't really understand?
This is not fun! So we need to press into this truth. We must dig in and understand so we can go out and declare!
There is a need for a clear understanding of the gospel. There are times where we must push back from the busyness and dissect the gospel, ensure we understand. So last night we dove into the gospel in hopes of better understanding our call and our message.
We often confuse the gospel with the mission. We may think the gospel is us telling when in fact the gospel is what is being told. "Good news" is what the gospel means but is not a clear description of the news itself. So we must go deeper than the surface. What is the good news? What do I share, live and declare? The gospel message delivered me but do I really understand its contents?
An apple is a fruit. But if you really want to know what an apple is made up of you must cut it open and look at it intently. The Gospel is a message of good news but to better understand it you must cut it open and look at it closely and intently. Get past the peeling.
One video we shared was by Matt Chandler. He gives us a nice clear description of what the gospel is all about. Watch it and share it! This was a good place for us to start.
I've attached my notes and pray we all end with a greater understand of the gospel message and then go out to live it, share it, and embrace it
Praying you have a great day and weekend!
Meet & Greet
September 20th, after the AM service, we will have an opportunity to meet together for a little bit. This is nothing big but simply an opportunity to make ourselves available to you as parents and students. We hope to answer questions, communicate what's going on at The Rock, or maybe just get to know you a bit more.
Meet & Greet is also an opportunity for you to sign up for some trips. Refuel sign-ups are currently underway and we do have a maximum number for that trip. We can only house 45 students so please don't wait around too long. Also, if you sign up for this trip by placing a deposit by September 20th you will receive a $10 discount. So get signed up!
We also seek to update contact information. We love to email and really push hard to keep these up to date and make sure you as parents are being informed of the latest news.
Devotions are rocking right along. We invite you along on the journey through Acts. To make this as easy as possible we have made these devotions our weekly bulletin. So students received one booklet each Wednesday night that has sermon notes, announcements, study helps and 5 days worth of devotions. If they can't make it on Wednesday we make them available on our website. So share this news and let's get in the Word!
NEW YEAR KICK OFF
September 2nd we'll be unveiling our new theme for the year. We'll also take some time to explain what we do, why we do it and how we do it. I'm very excited about this years direction. This direction and theme is more for us as leaders than for the students in that it provides a clear vision for our teaching. We never want to simply float through our preparations, so we pray and plan. This year we'll be journeying through Scripture seeking to understand the big picture. We hope to Abide in Christ through His Word and through our Walk.
Parents are invited to attend and hear the details and then hopefully enjoy a snow-cone. (fingers crossed on the snow cones!)
Why a blog?
A great way for parents and ministry to connect and continue the conversation of what's going on at The Rock.
