Good morning! Hope the first week of summer has gotten off to a good start for everyone. Looks as though many of you are out of town. Hope you all have a good time of rest, this weekend, when you get back from your "rest." Am I the only one who needs about 2 days of nothing to recover from being on vacation? Last night we took our small crowd and did a little recap of our Don't Waste Your Life Study. This is a great book by John Piper and it's also been a challenging time together. It causes you to take inventory of your life, strip away the claims you make and actually look hard at how you're living. Are you wasting life or have you willingly lost it for Jesus' sake, for the gospels sake? Last night we simply reiterated the main thought of DWYL and then looked at Scripture for a clearer understanding (Mark 8) and an example from the woman at the well in John 4. The notes and bulletin are attached. Hope you'll take some time to look at it and see where we're headed at The Rock SM.
Reach CampReach Camp is close. This year we will be having 2 Camp Nights at the Rock. Typically we have one night designated to announce teams and then let them take some time to prepare some things for the week at camp. This year we will be having two camp nights. The first is next week, June 3rd. This Camp night will simply be a time to announce teams and let them begin some prep work. This may need minor but it's a great way to allow them to work as a team. Sure, not all teams hunker down and work everything out but it helps identify leaders and allows them to work as a team to accomplish some goals. Students learn some lessons about leading, following, being a part of a team, dealing with laziness and goals. It's much more than simply get a name, make a flag, and work some things out. We'll also be making some tie dye shirts during the night, so maybe have students wear some clothes that could get stained. We'll have some other stations (4 for the night) for teams to go through. And don't worry if your student is not attending camp, this is a great way for them to experience camp. Our second camp night (June 17) will be more of a preparation of the heart. We'll have some team time but we'll spend most our time in Worship through song, the word and prayer as we begin to turn our hearts toward Reach Camp 2015. It's going to be a good year. In the meantime, be getting those names and deposits in. I am putting teams together today and Monday and would hate to leave anyone off the initial list. This helps out tremendously so please help us out and email me if your student is planning on going to camp but haven't signed up. Camp MeetingsWe have two camp meetings each year. You are only required to attend one. These meetings will be June 14th and June 17th at 6 pm. These meeting are set up for us to share some information and for you to ask some questions. You can gain a lot of information from the Camp Site (under events at Therocksm.org).
We do need consents for each student going. Consents are good for 2015 so if your student attended DNOW or Refuel we have a consent for them. If you are unsure regarding the consents simply email me and I'll let you know. If you are unable to attend either meeting please let me know. Camp season is officially underway! Get those deposits/payments in and have a great weekend!
